Capuchin Crypt experience ticket

The Crypt of the Capuchins in Rome is a unique and fascinating site, known for its eerie yet captivating display of human bones. Located beneath the Church of Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini, the crypt contains the skeletal remains of around 4,000 Capuchin friars, arranged in artistic patterns to create a macabre yet impressive setting. The crypt is divided into several chambers, each with different arrangements of bones, serving as a powerful reminder of the transient nature of life. A visit to this extraordinary site offers an unforgettable experience of history, art, and reflection.

The first section of the museum is dedicated to the convent, commissioned by the Barberini family and completed in 1631 according to the design of the Capuchin architect Fra Michele da Bergamo.

The next two sections present the Capuchin order and spirituality through the images and stories of some saints.
The fourth section displays vestments, objects of liturgical use, and artifacts of everyday use.
The fifth section is dedicated to the painting depicting Saint Francis in meditation, perhaps made by Caravaggio specifically for the Capuchin convent.
The sixth and seventh sections tell the story of the spiritual, cultural, missionary, and artistic activity of the order in the twentieth century and around the world.
At the end of the exhibition, the eighth section introduces the final and highly evocative place that closes the visit to the museum: the Crypt-Cemetery.
