FOROF Archaeology and Contemporary Art
What is FOROF? Archaeology and contemporary art, a combination in a mutual process of regeneration, inspired by the atmosphere of cultural cafes of the 20th century avant-garde.
Rome has always attracted and inspired writers, artists and intellectuals from all over the world, captured by the millenary charm of a city that today still inevitably directs contemporary research and production towards a lively confrontation with history. The exhibition of FOROF reveals an immersive and multisensory character, able to offer the visitor a real experience, enhanced by the uniqueness of the place and its history.
Founded by Giovanna Caruso Fendi, FOROF is the first permanent and continuous reality in Rome that proposes the binomial between contemporary art and archaeology, in a mutual process of regeneration. It is located in the heart of Rome, at Palazzo Roccagiovine, opposite the Trajan’s column at the Imperial Fora, and preserves in the hypogeum environments, in agreement with the Archaeological Superintendence of Rome, the colored marble of the pavement of the Basilica Ulpia and the remains of the eastern apse (2nd Century AC).
October 2024-June 2025: Nimbus Limbus Omnibus by Bartolomeo Pietromarchi.
The collective Viennese, in Rome for the first time, realizes an exhibition project unpublished and site-specific thought in dialogue with the archaeological site of Basilica Ulpia.
FOROF takes you back in time with the olfactory experience. Devoloped by Laura Bosetti Tonatto, a professional "nose" known all over the world. FOROF ESSENZA wants to return the spirit of a place, becoming a cultural and social tale of the universal value of freedom.
